The filthy condition

of this lane was commented upon by Mr. Cafpman last year and

steps were taken to abate the nuisance.

Legal notices for

dust bins were served on the Tenant of all floors of houses

Nos. 47 to 55 Queen's Road East which have been provided .

Periodical visits have been made byme since to see that the

nuisance did not recur. On my inspection of Tuesday

I noticed

an unusual amount of rubbish in the lane so looked up to see

if I could discover who the offender could be, there generally

being a certain amount deposited on the ledges; while doing

so I discovered that on the verandah of No.51 Top floor the

occupants had it enclosed (as the houses have no yards as

required under Section 175, the only open space provided being

this lane, under those conditions it required that all windows

in rear part of the premises be unobstructed so as to provide

the necessary light and ventilation required, I visited the

premises and discovered it to be occupied by Portuguese people

there being a lady on the premises at the time,

I asked per-

mission to be allowed to inspect the verandah in question.

I found a wooden partition had been erected extendag the

whole width of the verandah about 4 feet high.
